The Cahuilla people made these sacred canyons their home for thousands of years & is still part of their land today. It’s always amazing to hear water rushing along the canyon floor & over boulders & birds chirping in the vegetation. Indian Canyons is on the list of the National Register of Historic Places due of it’s cultural significance. Located near the southern boundary of Palm Springs on the eastern side of the San Jacinto Mountains, Indian Canyons has long been recognized as among one of the most significant natural preserves in California’s desert. This trip lasts about 3 hours and costs $66.00.

The hike begins with a visit to Murray Canyon oasis featuring a seasonal steam depending on rainfall amount we’ll cross over the stream several times to checkout the beautiful waterfall in the pics. We’ll then head to Andreas Canyon on a trail that’ll take us up for amazing scenic desert & mountain views overlooking Indian Canyons. When we get to Andreas Canyon we’ll have a look at ancient bedrock mortars where the Cahuilla women prepared food for their family’s, there are also replicas of Kish, which were their hut homes made from palm tree fronds.

The water in Andreas Canyon flows year round & is from a perennial mountain spring 5 miles up in the San Jacinto Mountains and features dramatic rock formations. This is a true desert oasis with lots of great photo ops along the way. During the winter season the endangered Peninsular Bighorn Sheep come down from the mountains to give birth, so if you’re here then hopefully we’ll see some, I’ve seen them here many times before. For more information or to book this activity, click here.
