Located in Stokes County 30 miles north of Winston-Salem, Hanging Rock State Park started as a Civilian Conservation Corps project and has become a park that offers every part of a traditional outdoor experience. Trails lead to picturesque mountain views, rock outcrops, waterfalls, and even a mountain cave. Some are open to horseback riding and mountain biking, and a portion is part of the Mountains-to-Sea State Trail. Campgrounds, a swim lake, and access to paddling on the Dan River complete the gamut of recreational opportunities.

The Gladiator Assault Challenge Mud Run Returns to Boone, Iowa

Looking to test your speed and endurance, or maybe just have some fun with friends? Then join us for the 15th annual Gladiator Assault Challenge, located at Seven Oaks Recreation in Boone, Iowa. This Adventure filled race is the Midwest’s premier obstacle race. For more information or to register, click here.

The Gladiator course varies from event to event, but each year the goal is the same; to test the runner’s endurance, speed, agility, strength, and mental stamina. If there is one race you plan to run this year,make it the Gladiator Assault Challenge Saturday, May 18th or Sunday May 19th!

This challenging but fun race, includes 30+ physically challenging obstacles including: Vertigo, wall of shame, down and dirty, wobbler, toast, monkey cargo box, muddy bunkers, balance beams, nam, cage animal, snake bite, cargo climb and many more.

The 5 to 7 mile course will challenge you with running, climbing, jumping, crawling, and balancing. Get your friends together and sign up now!

  • Saturday’s Schedule:
  • Full Gladiator Assault Challenge Elite heat is at 8:00 AM
  • Full Gladiator Assault Challenge and 5K Charge heats start at 8:20 AM and have heats every 20 minutes until 1:00 PM (last heat)
  • Junior/Parent 5K Gladiator Challenge heats are at 12:20 PM, 12:40 PM, and 1:00 pm and are for kids ages 9-14 years old with parents.  A parent/adult must be registered for the same heat as the junior.

Sundays Schedule:

  • Full Gladiator Assault Challenge and 5k Charge heats start at 9:00 AM and have heats every 20 minutes until 12:00 PM (last heat)
  • Junior/Parent 5K Gladiator Challenge heats are at 11:20 AM, 11:40 AM, and 12:00 pm and are for kids ages 9-14 years old with parents. A parent/adult must be registered for the same heat as the junior.

All participants will receive a Gladiator tee shirt,finish medal,and a free beer.(must be 21 years of age) After the race is over, make sure to stick around for the post race party! There will be beer, music, grilled food, and lots of mud covered bodies.

Providence Canyon Is Often Referred To As Georgia’s Grand Canyon And Its Truly Amazing

Georgia’s “Little Grand Canyon” is a testament to the power of man’s influence on the land. Massive gullies as deep as 150 feet were caused simply by poor farming practices during the 1800s, yet today they make some of the prettiest photographs within the state. Providence Canyon State Park is located at 8930 Canyon Road in Lumpkin, Georgia. Visitors can enjoy views of the canyons from the rim trail, taking care to stay behind fences and off the fragile canyon edge. Hikers who explore the deepest canyons will usually find a thin layer of water along the trail.

Guests who hike to canyons 4 and 5 may want to join the Canyon Climbers Club. Backpackers can stay overnight along the backcountry trail which highlights portions of the canyon and winds through mixed forest.

Camping, cottages and efficiency units are available nearby at Florence Marina State Park on 45,000 acre Lake Walter F. George.

You can spend your day exploring the 2,706 acres, 16 canyons, and more then 10 miles of trails. There are two covered shelters,a museum, a visitors center, playground and more!
